[ARCHIVED] Outdoor siren testing to begin March 1st at noon

Chickasha Emergency Management will begin implementing weekly outdoor siren testing at noon on Wednesdays beginning March 1st.

Weekly tests will continue on Wednesdays at noon unless there is a threat of severe weather in the area.  In those instances, siren testing will not occur to avoid any confusion of the need for the public to appropriately seek shelter.

“This is a great time to go over your personal emergency response plans with your family and at your place of work,” said Chickasha Emergency Management Director Kristal Kuhn. “Determine your options for shelter, register any new shelters with Chickasha’s Emergency Department and gather important personal and business documents and sentimental items into a box in the event of a real weather emergency.”

Any shelters located outside of Chickasha should be registered with Grady County Emergency Management.

Creating a plan and a “safe items” box help reduce anxiety during a time of a weather-related emergency allowing citizens to focus their efforts on seeking shelter safely and quickly.  Remember to locate your weather radio, batteries and a few basic items like bottled water and snack food items in case you need to stay an extended time in the safety of a shelter.

For more information, to register your shelter if you live in city limits or preparation tips for storm safety, please feel free to e-mail Kristal Kuhn at 405-222-6035 or e-mail her at Kristal.kuhn@chickasha.org.
