Drivers will notice some changes on Hwy 81 beginning this week between H.E. Bailey Turnpike westbound off-ramp to just north of Grand Avenue.
The project will involve widening the pavement and relocating/retrofitting traffic signals to provide for two northbound left turn lanes at Grand Ave. and to provide for a median opening to allow for southbound travelers to turn left into the Chisholm Trail Development.
Much like the project currently underway on Grand Avenue itself, this project will be a multi-phased project.
“We understand this is a lot of construction in a highly traveled area, however, we have had to wait on approval from various state entities before we could move forward and also for certain construction to be completed in relation to the Chisholm Trail Shoppes Development,” said Rob Camp, City of Chickasha Public Works Project Manager. “Please be patient during this time, the end results will not only make these two areas safer and smoother to travel, but will also shorten wait times at stoplights or frustration from drivers trying to access the new shopping center.”
Traffic will be directed using construction signs and message boards, drivers are encouraged to pay attention as we have many non-residential drivers traveling this highway daily.
The project deadline is 180 days from start to finish, but it is possible the work will be completed sooner. The traffic signals in the construction zone will be fully operational during the Festival of Light.
