The City of Chickasha has been preparing since early 2016 for a changeover from chlorine to chloramine to provide a safer alternative and more stable chemical treatment than chlorine. There are a few changes early on that consumers and citizens may notice for the next week.
In addition, this change will allow the City to meet the new water quality standards providing better quality water to its consumers and citizens. Once the system is completely changed consumers and citizens should notice changes to smell and color will have disappeared.
This treatment system is currently utilized by Oklahoma City, Broken Arrow, Tulsa as well as many other Oklahoma municipalities. In addition, other municipalities that utilize surface water for drinking water in Texas and Florida also commonly use this system.
