Chickasha Public Library hosts “Food for Fines”

FoodforFines

A yearly December campaign for the Chickasha Public Library is the “Food for Fines” program, which allows CPL patrons to bring in any non-perishable food items in relief of unpaid book fines during December.

To date patrons returned 61 books and $1158.80 fines were forgiven with returned books, while $1156.45 in fines were forgiven without books. Donations filled over 29 boxes and one sack.

In addition, there was an anonymous $500 donation.  All donated items were given to the Chickasha Emergency Food Pantry.  The pantry was founded in the 80s by the Ministerial Alliance.  Individuals and several local churches are contributing sponsors.

The drive will be continued through January, however, no additional fines will be reduced.  Any cash donations can be mailed directly to the Chickasha Emergency Food Pantry, PO Box 1203, Chickasha, OK  73023.

The Library would like to thank its patrons for helping to feed the community through this program.
