City Mandates Use of Face Coverings in Public

COVID-19 Face Coverings-01

Beginning April 10 at midnight, within the city limits of the City of Chickasha all individuals are mandated to wear a cloth face covering when making a public outing for essential activities and upon entering businesses.

During an emergency City Council Meeting on Friday, April 10, the Chickasha City Council approved and adopted Resolution No. 2020-07R, which empowers the City Manager to “implement measures to prevent, detect, manage and contain health threats, including but not limited to facial covering.”

Individuals may use a commercially available mask or face covering, or a homemade mask or face covering.

“Short term sacrifices, including wearing a mask when you go out and staying home whenever possible, help us with the long-term goal of keeping our community safe,” said John Noblitt, City Manager.

Individuals are asked to refrain from buying N95 masks, as they are needed to protect medical professionals and first responders, serving on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to this order from the City, citizens are also asked to follow guidance set forth on the national and state level. This includes staying home except for essential activities, such as grocery shopping or outdoor exercise, staying at least 6 feet away from others when in public, and limiting gatherings to 10 or fewer people.

“We recognize, especially with the Easter holiday this weekend, the desire to assemble together,” Noblitt said. “We request that citizens comply with the Governor’s order of 10 or fewer people at gatherings, and that people stay home unless absolutely necessary.”

Citizens are encouraged to take additional precautions, including frequently washing your hands for 20 seconds, avoid touching your face, clean frequently touched surfaces, and stay home if you feel unwell.
