Idaho Street Renaming Workshop

Monday, July 8, 2019

At the request of Dr. R.P. Ashanti-Alexander, the City of Chickasha is exploring renaming the remainder of Idaho Street to Ada Sipuel Avenue. Currently, east of 4th Street, Idaho St. is named Ada Sipuel Ave. Dr. Fisher was a pioneer in the civil rights movement, applying for admission to the University of Oklahoma law school in order to challenge the state’s segregation laws and to become a lawyer. After Sipuel v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Fisher was admitted to the University of Oklahoma’s law school, becoming the first African-American woman to attend a previously segregated, all-white public law school. Dr. Fisher was a Chickasha native and Lincoln High School graduate and is considered an important figure in the history of our city, state and nation. If you are unable to attend, feel free to forward your comments and concerns to the Office of the City Manager at citymanager@chickasha.org. Please provide your address with your questions or comments
